Two artists to keep an eye on…

Despite the mass talent of strong female artists throughout the New Zealand music industry at the moment, we still have a strong force of males who are also just as talented as our girls and doing just as well, in fact.

Two young and talented Wellington-ian men Jesse Sheehan and Louis Baker have currently been making waves with their music in the industry for the past few years and are two artists I highly recommend keeping an eye out for in the future.

Getting his fire back

Jesse SheehanI first heard of Jesse Sheehan two years ago, with the release of his first EP ‘A Crack In Everything’, which was released in 2011. With his pop/soul sound Sheehan has grown up in the music industry performing with local and big shot bands since the age of seventeen, winning the Rockquest in 2009 and taking out second place in the Play It Strange Songwriting Competition.

More recently however, Jesse has been in full swing this year doing the festival rounds playing at the Big Day Out festival in Auckland and returning to play in his hometown for the Jim Beam Homegrown summer festival. Last year saw the release of Sheehan’s second EP- ‘How The Light Gets In’ which you can listen to on Spotify and purchase on Itunes

Love, loss and live

Louis BakerLouis Baker is another artist who is hot off the press and new to our ears with incredible musical talent and soul. After wowing audiences as an opening act for the Thomas Oliver Band, and performing as a part of the new generation super-group Brockaflowersaurus-Rex & The Blueberry Biscuits, with just a couple of songs released under his name, Baker is also receiving a great following while still in the process of making a name for himself as he moves to the centre stage of the spotlight.

Like Sheehan, Baker also took to the stage at Wellington’s Jim Beam Homegrown festival where he was joined by guests- Thomas Oliver (Thomas Oliver Band), Tiki Taane and Iva Lamkum for an outstanding set.

Baker is currently working on his debut EP which is due for release on March 21, and is not something you are going to want to miss!

And once you have, leave a comment below-  tell me if you didn’t imagine being a bird flying over the ocean or showing him the ring to your heart, just for one second..
