New Zealand Music Month 2014

New Zealand Music Month 2014

New Zealand Music Month has arrived once again and this year it is back bigger and better than ever!

Becks and the New Zealand Music Commission have teamed up this year to bring you a great bunch of shows from both established and emerging artists. Who are you most looking forward to seeing perform?

Launch that rocket!

Everybody loves the word ‘free,’ right? Especially if its associated with music and gigs. So I’ll tell you what you will love..

Having just announced two shows in Auckland (May 28-29th)  and three in Wellington (30th May-1st June),whereby he will perform his three albums in full, winner of the award for the best Solo Male Artist at the 2013 NZ Vodafone Music Awards, Lawrence Arabia is kicking New Zealand Music Month into action with a free lunch time show this Thursday 1st May, at Tukutai Square/Britomart, Auckland. Which if you’re around, I would highly suggest attending.

PaquinThen if you feel like more celebrating, She’s So Rad, Delete Delete and Paquin will all be performing at Tyler St Garage, that evening.

Around the nation..

Being a nation-wide event, the love is being spread around the whole country with great shows happening in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin also.

Wellington, you have the pleasure of being able to see Doprah perform at Matterhorn on Friday May 2nd. These incredibly talented dudes have just been signed to Arch Hill Records, and their latest single ‘San Pedro’ is now available via itunes and spotify so you should definitely give it a listen and head along to congratulate and celebrate with them.

The ever so beautiful Janine & The Mixtape whose video for ‘Hold Me‘ her latest single (which you can check out below) premiered on Billboard just last week, will be performing with special guests at DuxLive in Christchurch on Thursday 15 May. If you are in that neck of the woods, this is a definite must attend gig, as this lady is undoubtedly going to be going places, very soon!

Dunedin folks, David Kilgour & The Heavy Eights, Death & The Maiden + Brown will be hitting the Chicks Hotel on Saturday 24th May. For your information this is the place to be if you are after a rock and rolling night of great music.

Shes So RadNow heading back up to Auckland, a showcase from Native Tongue brings you the Phoenix Foundation, The Bads & Mulholland on Saturday 17th May at the Kings Arms, while Arch Hill Recordings invite you to celebrate their 15th birthday with them on Friday May 30th at the Kings Arms for a night packed with performances from Don McGlashan, Ghost Wave, Street Chant, The Transistors, Surf City, Doprah + special guests!

Wowee, that is a lot! With more musical happenings around the place throughout the month also, it’s not just about listening to more kiwi music on the radio for a few weeks, it’s about truly showcasing the amount of exceptional talent our little country has to offer. So I truly hope you manage to get out there and embrace as much of it as you possibly can!

Get out there, have fun and Happy New Zealand Music Month from the team here at Music Nation.
