US rapper Riff Raff announces local support acts for his Auckland show

US hip-hop artist Riff Raff is upping the ante ahead of his one-off New Zealand show – adding not one, but three, primo local support acts to the bill.

The shamelessly eccentric rapper and pop culture icon is playing at The Studio in Auckland on Friday, June 9. Now he’s just announced that Times X Two, PHD, and Imagine This will be joining him.

Without a doubt one of the most colourful characters in music, Riff Raff is an artist who demands attention and his live performances are no exception. And here’s what you need to know about the four acts that’ll make his show at The Studio a party like no other.

Timex x Two:
Aucklanders Cade’r and Zee are beatmakers, singers, songwriters and record producers with a reputation for creating catchy and thoughtful music informed and influenced by the likes of Drake, Kanye West, Tame Impala and Outkast. With a string of impressive live performances to their name, including three appearances at Rhythm & Vines and support slots for the likes of T-Pain, Kid Ink, A$AP Mob and G-Eazy,TIMES x TWO are not to be missed.

PHD:
This Auckland duo (T13 and Anime) has independently released 10 albums since 2005 and performed more than 200 shows, supporting and touring with acts such as Bizzy Bone, Mobb Deep, DJ Yella and Dizzee Rascal. Their music featured in the award-winning documentary Hip-Hoperation, which sold out screenings all over the world. They have charted in the NZ Top 40 twice and also in the JB Hi-Fi album charts.

Imagine This:
A rapper who effortlessly bridges the boundaries between genres; from hip-hop, trap, twerk, glitch, house and ghetto funk; Imagine This pours his heart and soul into his work and delivers an unforgettable live performance marked by pure raw energy. Played on both underground and commercial radio stations around the world, the astounding 23 x EPs he’s released feature his unique and highly versatile vocal style combined with original lyrics and dynamic flow.
